Hi there! Thanks for all the lovely scents you’ve provided! (: Just wondering how you usually go about diluting these formulas, i can’t seem to find solid information on the proper concentration other than general guidelines for parfums, edp, etc. Is there any proper way of deciding the strength or is it more so a matter of preference?
I wanted to make this Formula in a few days.
I dont know If my way is the best but i will make it at 20% First and See if its good or Not.
20% should be enough for most fragrances.
I agree – 20% is my standard for most things.
So i just wondered one Thing.
Is there a Difference when u dilute a scent to 20% and put 5 Sprays on or when you dilute it to 10% and put 10 Sprays on?
I would think it is the same
Roughly speaking that would be the same – though I guess some differences may occur due to the denser fragrance at 20% not allowing as much liquid to pass through the same size nozzle. This is part of the reason IFRA is ridiculous IMHO. I usually make perfume for my own use at 20% because it works well with my bottles and the fact that I typically spray five squirts on myself when wearing perfume (mine or others).
I would dilute this to 20 / 80 personally – but mostly because I like my scents strong – even fresh ones. You could go to 15% for a lighter EDT or even 10% for something closer to a cologne – good for the gym perhaps.
Hi, I don’t have Guaiayl Acetate and it’s hard for me to find it. What other material could I replace it with? Very diluted Guaiacol? Or do I omit it? Thank you very much
PerfumersWorld and perfumers Supply House got it.
In another Formula Jamie suggested normal guaiac Wood Oil as a Substitute for guaiayl Acetate but i dont know If it works in this formula
Thanks, I will try with Guaiac heart by Robertet. 🙂
When i compare Guaiac wood oil with the acetate just with smelling:
The acetate is much less smokey and a lot cleaner smelling
Yes! Like a Guaic Heart (molecular dist.), very less smokey .
Yup – Robertet guaiac heart is a lovely product. Robertet is pretty outstanding in most things actually.
The first robertet material i got is Pink Pepper Berries Co2, cant wait to try it out in the Terre d’Hermes formula!
I’m just missing a few things.
I’m on the search for Patchouli Moleclur Distilled and there are so many different types that i cant really decide.
Patchouli Molecular Distilled and Patchouli Molecular Distilled 65% Patchoulol are 2 types at Hermitageoils.
Liaison Carbone has Patchouli Absolute Molecular Distilled by Payan Bertrand.
Or the Fraction B by Robertet at Perfumer Supply House.
Or a mixture of maybe Patchoulol crystals and Clearwood to have a more replicatable formula.
Florian, Patchoulyl acetate by Aventus is a lovely product too.
*Ventos not Aventus 🙂
I will get that on my list for the next purchase at psh but that wont be soon sadly
Best Option for me would be the Patchouli Abs. MD from Payan Bertrand to get or using patchoulol crystals with maybe clearwood or normal patchouli oil
Patchoulyl acetate is beautiful – one of my favorite materials. I mix an overdose of it with lisylang heart, and cyclosia to form the base of a rose fragrance I make.
I’d go with the Payan Bertrand or hermitage. I wouldn’t mix clear wood and patchouli for this particular fragrance. Worst case scenario: just use patchouli alcohol (patchoulol) instead. It’s beautiful and refined and while it would change the fragrance a little it wouldn’t spoil it.
Okay i will go with the Payan Bertrand Patchouli Abs. Molecular Distilled then.
I really like the smell of Patchoulol so i think i will like that too
Hi,
is the Guaiayl Acetate (typing error?):
1) guaiyl acetate, 134-28-1 (rose tea rose woody spicy green fatty) or
2) guaiacyl acetate, 613-70-7 (sweet woody spicy dry clove powdery smoky)
Oh it is a spelling error – thank you for pointing that out! I will fix it. The correct one is the first, CAS 134-28-1.
Just sniffed the bottle I mixed up of this about 8 months back, and it has become even more fresh and delightful. Has me yearning for summer to wear it, though I might anyway now! And I must agree, I much prefer this to the orginal scent (;
