The finest Jasmine in the world is Jasmin de Grasse, or French Jasmine Grandiflorum absolute. Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to get hold of because Patou and Chanel still purchase most of the French Jasmine for Chanel No 5 and Joy (and presumably 1,000 which is also still in production). Many companies produce excellent Jasmine absolute replacers but they are often also very expensive or, worse still, available in bulk purchasing only. Consequently I have put together this formula base,...

can we use Jasmin de Grasse Replacer Base instead of jasmine absolute?
Yes – that’s its main use 🙂
Thanks Jamie.
I made a few very minor edits due to lack of materials. Used para-cresyl methyl ether instead of p-cresol, supplemented the Ethyl lineolate with equal parts BB and used a Neroli blossom abs replacer. I could not find the Ethyl lineolate anywhere online, I’m sorry Jamie, I tried to stay true to you! Anyways, it turned out fantastic, it is incredibly spot on. I doubt I would be able to distinguish between the real and this one if someone asked me to do so!
Funnily enough your substitute of para cresyl methyl ether wouldn’t normally be my first choice for p-cresol, but PCME fits in beautifully to the profile of a Jasmin de Grasse replacer! PCME is the magic in Ylang Ylang (a natural I would consider adding to this base for further experimentation). If you’re not familiar with Cyclopidene I strongly recommend you pick some up to play with – it’s a magnificent modern cresylic note that has a sweet and creamy beauty along side. It is a great way to add a sense of white flowers to a fragrance.
